Partner Spotlight: MPB

Although accounting for carbon is a useful practice—especially because, at least in theory, it’s standardisable—it’s extremely hard to think of anything less inspiring than a tonne of invisible, odourless gas.
This is why carbon credits, while helpful as a metric to gauge climate impact, often fall flat when it comes to actually engaging real people. It’s why many members of the public roll their eyes when companies make bold net zero claims. And when it comes to effective corporate climate action, it's people that matter—whether we're talking about consumers, employees, or investors.
Native Squares offer a powerful and practical alternative to traditional carbon credits. While a tonne of invisible, odourless gas may be hard to connect with, a Native Square represents 3m² of real rainforest—visible on a map, stewarded by indigenous communities and backed by Native’s proprietary geospatial mapping system. Each Square contributes directly to carbon drawdown, biodiversity conservation, and local community resilience.
This tangibility makes Native Squares far more effective than mainstream carbon or biodiversity credits as tools for employee engagement, reward, and internal culture building — while simultaneously helping companies progress towards their net zero and ESG goals.

MPB: A Circular Economy Champion
This is why we are proud to highlight our partnership with MPB, the largest global platform for buying, selling, and trading used camera gear. A pioneer in the circular economy, MPB has integrated Native Squares into their internal long service recognition programmes — demonstrating how companies can reward people and protect the planet in one unified gesture:
“At MPB, sustainability underpins everything we do — guiding our everyday decisions and actions,” says Tilly Houlton, Senior Internal Communications Manager at MPB. “That’s why we’re proud to include rainforest protection in our long service recognition programme. By gifting Native Squares to our people, we’re celebrating their contributions in a way that reflects our purpose: to open up the world of visual storytelling in a way that’s better for people and the planet.”
By integrating Native Squares into their employee rewards programme, MPB is turning service anniversaries into moments of genuine environmental impact. Each Square gifted protects an irreplaceable and unique part of the rainforest—contributing directly to global carbon absorption and biodiversity preservation. Once employees claim their Square they can see them directly on the Native map, while using their dashboard to track their impact across carbon, biodiversity and community.
Purpose-Driven Employee Engagement for Earth Day and Beyond
But their commitment didn’t stop there. On Earth Day, MPB invited staff to participate in a fun, two-minute quiz — and for every person who completed it, they protected an additional 3m² of rainforest. In total, that one engagement activity resulted in 225m² of rainforest safeguarded, simply through a moment of connection with nature and purpose.
“It was a simple act that took less time than making a cup of tea and delivered a tangible impact,” says Tilly. “In total, we safeguarded 225 square metres of rainforest, thanks to our team’s engagement.”
This creative approach to employee engagement reflects how Native Squares can help sustainability leaders turn environmental goals into personal, interactive experiences for their teams. It’s a strategy that supports both internal culture and corporate ESG goals, while driving measurable environmental impact.
“Rainforest protection isn’t just symbolic — it plays a vital role in absorbing carbon, protecting biodiversity, and stabilising global climate systems. It's one of many meaningful actions we’re taking to reduce our environmental impact, and we’re proud to make it part of how we recognise and reward our people. Because at MPB, we believe every story — and every action — can contribute to a more sustainable future.”
A Growing Partnership with Real Climate Impact
To date, MPB has protected 477m² of tropical rainforest through Native Squared, helping to safeguard one of the planet’s most important ecosystems. This space represents not just a commitment to environmental stewardship, but a genuine investment in people — giving team members something they can feel proud of and connect to. It’s a model for how values-led organisations can use simple, tangible tools to build internal culture and protect the planet.
We’re proud to partner with MPB in their journey toward a more sustainable business and look forward to expanding our collaboration in the future. Together, we’re showing that rainforest protection isn’t just about offsetting—it’s a story of real people, real action, and real impact.
